Your forge level decides which age of items you can even find — nothing else does. Target: level 8, which takes the forge from 1 to 3 tiers for 100,000 coins.

All 47 tier-0 nodes across the three trees cost 15,416 potions — less than ONE tier-4 node (26,326). The ordering is not a matter of taste.
